News reaching us has it that suspected Boko Haram insurgents are currently overwhelming Michika, and Madagali communities in northern Adamawa State.

There is panic as residents of the area are fleeing their homes following the onslaught mounted by the attackers.

Locals said there were sustained sporadic gunshots from 7 pm on Monday evening around Shuwa town in Madagali, forcing people living in the area fleeing for fear of attacks.

A source said the insurgents were confronted and repelled by the military; they were later forced to retreat.

According to a Christian cleric who lives on the area, “they came through Kirchinga crossing River Yadzaran from Lasasa Local Government Area in Borno State – a local government bordering the infamous Sambisa Forest.

“They were repelled by the military in the areas they attacked. But they moved to villages near Michika and began attacking them.

“Some villages they are attacking are now are Kirchinga, Wuro-Gayinde, Duwala, Shuwa and others surrounding Michika town. They are all endangered,” he said.

It would be recalled that both Michika and Madagali were communities captured by the Boko Haram insurgents in 2014. The communities are gradually coming out the trauma of the insurgents’ activities that have left houses and critical infrastructure in rubles for close to five years.
