Another aide to Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, Dr. Tavershima Adyorough, was, on Sunday, shot dead at his Makurdi residence by yet-to-be0identified gunmen.

Adyorough, who was Principal Special Assistant on Knowledge Economy and Investments, was shot and killed by gunmen who invaded his residence at about 12.30am Sunday and also shot his wife.

Meanwhile, Governor Ortom, in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Terver Akase and made available to Daily Sun, has demanded the arrest and prosecution of the killers of his aide

“Governor Ortom described the killing as unacceptable and condemnable, requesting security agencies to swing into action immediately so as to arrest those responsible for the dastardly act.”

While describing Adyorough as a competent and dependable aide who delivered on assignments with dedication and honesty, Governor Ortom sympathized with the immediate family of the deceased, the government and people of the state on the loss.

He also promised that he would support security agencies in apprehending the culprits while urging those with useful information that can lead to the arrest to make same available.

Already, the Benue State Police Command has confirmed the report in a press statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Moses Yamu and made available to newsmen.

“The Benue Police Command has received information that today at about 0020hrs, two yet to be identified gunmen shot Dr. Tavershima Adyorough and his wife in thier residence at BIPC Quarters Nyiman Makurdi.”

Yamu said on arrival at the scene, the police rushed the couple to the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH) where the man was confirmed dead while the wife who survived the attack was currently receiving treatment.

He added that five expended cartridges were also recovered from the scene of the crime informing further that the Commissioner of Police, Bashir Makama has ordered the immediate investigation to unravel those behind this heinous crime and assured members of the public that the perpetrators would surely be brought to book.

Daily Sun reports that it was the second time Ortom’s aide had been killed by gunmen at their residences since his assumption of office as Governor of the state.

Senior Special Assistant to Governor Samuel Ortom on Special Security, Denen Igbana was, sometime early last year, was dead at his Tionsha residence allegedly by the dreaded militia leader, Terwase Akwaza, alias ‘Ghana’.

Ghana who is currently on the wanted list of the police for the crime also has a ransom of N10 million placed on him by the state government for anyone who has useful information that could lead to his (Ghana’s) arrest.
