Gun men numbering about 10 in the early hours of Saturday invaded the Aiyetoro- gbedde residence of Senator Dino Melaye and shot sporadically shattering some of his vehicles and windows to his house.
Melaye while conducting newsmen round the house said the gun men came at about 12 am and shot sporadically for over two hours before they left chanting anti Dino songs.
He showed the newsmen his hilux vehicle and a luxury bus which were riddled with bullets, while the windows of the boys quarter to his house and his apartment were also shattered by bullets.
Part of the exit gate to his house was also damaged by the bullets including the house of his private security Guard.
Dino who alleged that the assassination attempt was sponsored by the Chairman of Ijumu local government, Mr Taofeeq Isa said the chairman had threatened severally to deal with him because he was criticizing governor Yahaya Bello’s administration.
He said recently at a public forum, the chairman incited members of the public to stone him anytime he was at his country home but surprise to see a tumultous crowd that trooped out from all over his countituency to give him a rousing welcome .
He said immediately the incident happened, he put a call to the divisional police officer in Ayetoro which was just a stone throw to his his while he also sent one of his boys to personal go to report the incidence at the police station, but none of them surfaced until three hours after the incident, even as he alleged the police of complicity.
Melaiye said no ammount of threat to his life would deter him from speaking the truth adding that he was not afraid of death
When contacted for his own side of the story, Mr Taofeeq Isa said he was surprised that Dino could accuse him of sponsoring an assasination against him saying he waas still mourning his family members who died few days ago.
He said for seven years he had been a supporter of Melaiye but decided to call it quit recently beacuse the Senator was vehenmently critizing the governor even as he denied of ever inciting anybody against the senatot.
