Husband of the Queen of England, and the Duke of Edinburgh has been admitted to hospital to be treated for an infection, Buckingham Palace has said.
The 96-year-old was admitted to King Edward VII Hospital in London last night as a ‘precautionary measure’.
The Palace said he is receiving treatment for an infection which has arisen from a ‘pre-existing condition’.

The spokesman added that he was ‘in good spirits’ and ‘disappointed’ to be missing today’s engagements.
Prince Philip is in good spirits and is disappointed to be missing the State Opening of Parliament and Royal Ascot,’ they said.
The Prince of Wales will instead accompany The Queen to the State Opening.
Royal sources say Prince Philip was at Windsor when he was taken ill in the early to mid evening. His condition is not believed to be serious.
Yesterday, the Duke was pictured with the Queen at Ascot racecourse for the first day of Royal Ascot.
Last month, it was announced that Philip will take a step back from public duties in the autumn to enjoy a well-earned retirement.
The Palace said the Queen being kept informed and will attend Royal Ascot as planned this afternoon. (Mailonline.com)
