A tanker conveying petrol has exploded near Otedola Estate on the outbound service lane of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) says the tanker was fully loaded with 44,000 liters of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) and was moving toward Berger along Lagos – Ibadan Expressway when one of its tyres caught fire on the Otedola bridge outward Lagos and people around the area called the attention of the tanker driver to stop.
Witnesses said when the driver was asked to stop, he decided to reverse  rather than stop.
NEMA said the truck driver who was identified as Uche claimed the lorry belongs to River State Government , adding that  he suddenly saw the tanker going back on speed and hit a family of 6 in a smaller car.
NEMA spokesman, Ibrahim Farinloye in a whatsapp message said the family came out of the incident unhurt, along side the truck driver and his assistant.
He said: “No one was injured neither any casualty recoded. No casualty or injury sustained by anyone.”
