PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated former President of Nigeria and elder statesman, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, as he turns 79 years old today.
The Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina in a statement said that the President ac­knowledged that, Obasanjo who is approaching the octogenarian cycle, has contributed immensely to the institutionalisation of democracy in Nigeria and Africa through his per­sonal sacrifice, extensive local and international networks, and God-given wisdom.
In the same vein, President Bu­hari congratulated the Olubadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji Aje Ogungun­niso 1 on his coronation yesterday.
A statement by Presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina said “President Buhari joins the indi­genes of Ibadan, the family of the Olubadan, the government and people of Oyo State in celebrating Oba Adetunji’s ascension to the an­cient throne of his forefathers. As he ascends the throne as the 41st Ol­ubadan, President Buhari urges Oba Adetunji to follow in the worthy and commendable footsteps of his pre­decessors by working diligently for peace and development in Ibadan, Oyo State and Nigeria. “The Presi­dent calls on Oba Adetunji to also do his utmost best, in his new role as the chief custodian of the tradi­tions of his people, to preserve and propagate the admirable culture and customs of Ibadan. President Buhari assures the new Olubadan of the full support and cooperation of the Fed­eral Government as he strives to lead his people forward and contribute meaningfully to the development of his domain, Oyo State and the na­tion.”
