Archbishop Magnus Atilade, President, CAN, South-West Zone
WHILE speaking on the issue, President, Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, South-West zone, Archbishop Magnus Atilade urged President Muhammadu Buhari to be very cautious, reminding him that he shoud not forget that Nigeria is a secular state.
‘’President Buhari is advised to thread very carefully. He has a lot on his hands already, he should not allow religion to be added to his numerous challenges. The President need not to be reminded that the constitution of the country guarantees secularity, and that is what has been keeping us together. The President should not listen to bad advisers’’, he declared.
The cleric who added that Nigeria’s membership of the coalition against Terrorism being led by Saudi Arabia will bring nothing but tension and avoidable crisis.
‘’Do we want Nigeria to become object of attack from ISIS and other radical Islamist groups? Already, we are battling with the menace of Boko-Haram, why should we go and join that coalition? It is not in our interest at all. Buhari should not bite more than he can chew,’’ he said.
Appealing to Christians to remain calm, Atilade said CAN will never allow any injustice to be meted to them without putting up a strong resistance.
