Buhari to inaugurate Minimum Wage Committee tomorrow

President Muhammadu Buhari will tomorrow inaugurate the committee for the review of the new minimum wage.

In line with this, the list of the 30 members of the tripartite committee was released by the presidency at the weekend.

A release from the Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, stated that the Committee would be inaugurated at the Council chambers, Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja.   

“The committee members are expected to arrive at the State House Pilot Gate latest 10:30 am and be seated by 11:00 am”, the Minister said.

Ngige explained that by its tripartite nature, the committee is made up of persons from the public sector (federal and state governments) and the private sector made up of the largest private employer group, the Nigeria Employers Consultative Association (NECA), Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture (NACCIMA) and Nigerian Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (NASME).

Members of the committee also include representatives of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC).

The members of the committee from the federal government are, Ama Pepple, Chairman of the Tripartite National Minimum Wage Committee, Senator Chris Ngige, Minister of Labour and Employment, Deputy Chairman, Chief Richard Egbule, Chairman, National Salaries, Income and Wages Commission, who will act as the secretary of the committee.  Others include the Minister of Budget and National Planning, Udo Udo Udoma, Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Winifred Oyo-Ita, and Dr. Roy Ugo, the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation. Representing the Nigeria Governors’ Forum are Governor Rauf Aregbesola, Osun State (South West), Governor Rochas Okorocha – Imo State (South East), Governor Hassan Dankwambo – Gombe State, (North East), Governor Nyesom Wike – Rivers State, (South South), Governor Simon Lalong – Plateau State, (North Central), Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu – Kebbi State (North West), and A. B. Okauru, the Director General of NGF, who will be an observer on the committee.

On the Trade Union side are Ayuba Wabba, President, Nigeria Labour Congress,  leading four other members of the NLC; and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) led by its president, Bobboi Bala Kaigama, which has three representatives.
