• As Osinbajo, party’s governors meet

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said it will go ahead with its planned National Convention despite the absence of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo and governors on the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC) yesterday met behind closed doors to deliberate on the confusion surrounding the conduct of the ruling party’s national convention.

The meeting held at the Vice President’s Conference Room immediately after the National Economic Council meeting which Osinbajo chaired. Chairman of Progressive Governors Forum and Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, told State House Correspondents after the meeting that the absence of President Muhammadu Buhari will not stop the conduct of the convention.

He said the convention was delayed because of the need to put the APC house in order.

Okorocha said: “We discussed on issues relating to the government and how to move our party forward; how to strengthen the party and how to make sure the APC remains victorious in all elections.

“Very soon, we will have convention. That is part of the things we are discussing.

The convention not taking place has nothing to do with the absence of the president or the Acting President.

We are just putting our house in order and making sure things are in the right form before we kick off.”

On speculations that the revival of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has put the ruling party under pressure to act, Okorocha said APC does not care about PDP.

“No, PDP is a non-issue. We don’t even care about that. We defeated them when they were in power. So, what is different when we are now in power?”
