A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gombe, Dr Jamilu Isyaku Gwamna, has described the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari as well-deserved and a beacon of hope for Nigeria and the country’s fight against corruption.

Gwamna,  who doubles as Sardaunan Gombe, stated this in a media chat with newsmen on Wednesday in Gombe shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) pronounced President Buhari, the APC candidate, winner of the presidential election held on Saturday, winning with a margin of over 3.9 million votes.

He said that Buhari’s reelection had rekindled hope of a consolidation on the gains of the president’s first term.

“The people would be more relieved that the rigging plans of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) didn’t work and the several forces of political coalitions against the president,” Gwamna said.

He said that Nigerians were celebrating as a result of the fact that, by the president’s victory, there would be continuity in the dividends of democracy as it was being driven by the president.

“President Buhari’s victory has rekindled hope of the country’s fight against corruption and the sustainability of good governance. If the president hadn’t won, the fight against corruption would have died naturally with the PDP in power as many of their governors would be walking free.

“We cannot develop as a people and nation if we keep running an administration without consequences for those who plunder the resources of the people as the PDP had done in the past. The current administration has done well to bring many to book and that’s cheering and heart-warming,” he said.

He also describes the APC victory in 9 out of 11 Local Government Areas of Gombe State as a clear indication of the people’s love for a president who has made the poor his priority.

“The victory has given Nigerians hope that those that plundered the country will not go free. I can tell you now that many of the governors who have served all their terms are very much afraid and may go on exile soon,” Gwamna added.

The APC chieftain enjoined Nigerians to stand with the president as he moves forward following his reelection into office.

He tasked in Gombe State voters replicate the presidential victory to the governorship election scheduled for March 9th, to pave the way for Alhaji Inuwa Yahaya to become the next governor in the state “and cement the defeat of the PDP completely,” he said.
