The entrepreneurial story of Ogechi Ukonu, aka Caramel Plugg, is often under-reported because of the absolute focus on her exploits as an online comedian and social media celebrity. From being a social media influencer, she has created a thriving business, Caramel Shop has been having a field day as an entrepreneur, fashion influencer and brand ambassador.
She recently shared her thoughts on what it is like being an entrepreneur: “It’s amazing. It’s not rosy every day but I love the chase. It always drives me to keep going. I love it.”
She also spoke about how she derived the inspiration for her business enterprise: “I’ve always wanted to have my own fashion line but I wasn’t sure of how that was going to play out. So the opportunity for it came and I ran with it.”
Her long term plan for Caramel Shop, she disclosed, is “to expand the clothing line.”
And as for her future as a comedian, she declared unequivocally that she will continue being a comedian. “As long as I can share my moods with people, it’s not a problem. I love it,” she averred.
Caramel Plugg who will be graduating in 2021, said she already mapped out her plans for the years ahead. “I plan to keep going, expand my business and create more time for myself. There’s also room to make more plans but this is the next move for now,” she said.
The comedian, set to complete her education at the University of Fraser Valley, Vancouver, Canada, in 2021, said she is also looking forward to returning to Lagos.
So far, life has been good to her, she avowed.
For young people who are still new to social media, Caramel Plugg, who is 21 in 2021, counselled: “Never change for anyone. The world will adapt to you no matter how long it takes them.”
