Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), has urged politicians and Nigerians to desist from comments and speeches that would further encourage division among Nigerians.
However, the associaiton encouraged them to embrace actions that would strengthen love, unity and brotherliness among Nigerians irrespective of political, religious and ethnic differences.
CAN President, Rev. Samson Ayokunle, in his New Year message, said that such divisive comments and hate speeches have been responsible for insincerity and slow action in solving political and socio-economic problems in Nigeria.
He congratulated Nigerians for witnessing a brand new year amidst hardship and other societal challenges, with encouragement to persevere and hope for better Nigeria.
The Christian leader advised Nigerians, particularly those without voters’ card to get registered and use it wisely in 2019 general elections.
Ayokunle also appealed to politicians to apply decorum and respect for each other in their campaigns.
He also challenged security agencies to be dedicated and loyal to the nation in their responsibilities and dutifully put an end to endless killings in some parts of Nigeria.
According to him, Nigeria would exit the company of nations that are subject of mockery through the combined efforts of all Nigerians.
He prayed God to redirect the footsteps of political and community leaders, so as to be righteous in every facet that would result in sustainable peace in Nigeria.
