ENYIMBA fans are not happy that the club is not prosecuting her CAF Champions League matches at home and they carried placards to protest the situation after yesterday’s loss to Zamalek at the Adokie Amiesimaka Stadium in Port-Harcourt.
Some of the fans carried placard with the inscription “Bring back our Stadium.”
They wondered why it is taking tAbia State government a long time to complete the regrassing of the Enyimba Stadium.
One of the angry fans who gave his name as Josiah said Enyimba would have enjoyed better support in Aba.
“You can see that we played in an empty stadium. Only a few of us travelled to Port-Harcourt to cheer the team,” he said.
An official of the club added that Enyimba would not have played in a waterlogged turf at Aba, insisting that they know how to hold the rain on match day.
“You may not believe me but we know how to ensure the rain does not affect our game.”
The heavens opened just one hour to kick off of yesterday’s game and Enyimba got punished as goalkeeper Afelokhai, no thanks to a slip that allowed Zamalek to score a 7th minute goal that Enyimba failed to cancel.
Enyimba chairman, Felix Anyansi Agwu, however, appealed to the fans to be patient as the team’s home ground would soon be ready for use.
“We will soon return home. My appeal to the fans is for them to be patient. We have been winning in Port-Harcourt before now so the defeat has nothing to do with playing here,” he said.
Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa now top of the group with three points following their 2-0 win at Algeria’s Entente Setif on Saturday.
Sundowns host Enyimba on June 29 in continuation of the competition.
Sunday’s kick-off was delayed by heavy rain in Port Harcourt.
