•Vows not to give up on rescue

To mark 738 days of the missing Chibok girls, the United States Government, yesterday, commended the #BringBackOurGirls  group for their resilience and stubbornness in the campaign for the return of the abducted  girls, stating that the US will never give up on the rescue.

This is even as the group asked the US government to provide intelligence for Nigeria, since according to them, President Muhammadu Buhari has told them Nigeria cannot rescue the girls  because of lack of credible intelligence.

The US Permanent Representative and Member of President Barack Obama’s cabinet, Ambassador Professor Samathan Power made the observations, when the  US delegation, met the BBOG group in Abuja.

“You should know that thousands of miles away, in small classrooms in the US, in big institutions like United Nations, people know what you are doing everyday. We know the frustration you have been passing through. On behalf of those who are aware of your resilience, humanity, determination and your stubbornness, I thank you. I also know that you will be thinking that as super powers, we could just snap our fingers and rescue the girls and I wish it will be so.

“But, what I can tell you as a personal representative of President (Barak) Obama, is that we will never give up, we can never give up. We are working with our partners and the partnership is getting stronger. We can’t bring those girls from the sky. We have to use joint task force against the terrorists, by respecting human rights, by providing economic opportunities. I long for the day we will come together to celebrate the return of the girls. So, we are motivated, we are inspired by you and soon we will celebrate the reunion with the girls.”

Earlier in her remarks, the coordinator of the group, Ms. Oby Ezekwesili noted that one critical thing they want the representative to take home is to  promise Nigeria of reliable intelligence.

She told her that the only country that can help Nigeria with intelligence is the US stressing that she should not leave Nigeria without amplifying the gathering of necessary intelligence that will enable the rescue of the Chibok girls.

The Ambassador was decorated with #BringBackOurGirls badge and was also given three badges as message to President Obama and Mrs. Obama, as well as the US Secretary of State, John Kerry.
