The United Christian Clerics for National Peace (UCCNP) has assured that President Muhammadu Buhari has no intention to Islamise Nigeria.

The UCCNP also disclosed that Buhari does not hate Christians; as is being alleged in some quarters.

In a statement signed by its National President, Bishop John Abu Richard, the  UCCNP urged Nigerians “to give Buhari another opportunity and more time to take the country to her promise land’’.

The  group, however, alleged that some Christian leaders and their religious groups are busy training election observers; to use them to cause confusion during and after elections.

“We believe monitoring and observing elections is the work of some NGOs and not the Church. We, therefore, condemn the idea of Christian religious groups that have turned themselves to election observers.

“The consequence of their acts is to mislead Chrisitans in the country and instigate them into causing anarchy that may lead to  religious war.

‘’We call on security agencies to be alert, in order to stop these groups of people that are ready to cause confusion.  We also remind the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to study all election observers before approving them,” the group said.

UCCNP also commended the president for the provision of infrastructure, all over the country, due to what it described as “prudent management of scarce resources.

“We are aware that we are not truly there yet and, therefore, he should be given the opportunity and more time to take Nigeria to her Promised Land.’’

Bishop Richard also appealed to Nigerians, irrespective of their religiousbackground, to pray “so that God will provide peaceful and conducive environment to conduct very peaceful credible elections that would produce leaders we can trust

“Let us also continue to pray for God’s intervention. We also need to pray for the leadership of INEC, political parties and other politicians so that God will grant them the wisdom to successfully do the needful; in the forthcoming general election.

“We believe that prayers have done a lot of things for Mr. President and the country.

“For instance, it was through prayers that the issue of the Nigeria Labour Congress, the salary structure of civil servants and the Federal Government were resolved.

“It was also through prayers that ASUU called off the strike as the whole matter was resolved…”
