An Enugu-based cleric, Most Rev. Emmanuel Chukwuma, has commended Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi on his commitment to the welfare of the citizens’ through payment of workers’ salaries, pensions and implementing people oriented projects.

Chukwuma, who is the Archbishop of the Anglican Arch-Diocese of Enugu, made the commendation on Thursday in Enugu in an interview with the NAN.

He said that the commitment of the governor to the welfare of workers and the citizens had prevented strikes and demonstrations in the state.

Chukwuma said that Ugwuanyi had inspired the people with his humility, peaceful disposition, closeness to God and good governance, adding that the people would remember him for these good gestures.

“The governor has been so friendly and takes everything so easy while showing great concern to the welfare of the people.

“I have never seen any governor that is as friendly and open as this governor,’’ he added.

Chukwuma, however, urged the governor not to be afraid to take tough decisions that are in the interest of the people.

He said: “we laud Ugwuanyi for the courage in handling the problem of the New Artisan Market, Enugu.

“Sometime ago we were apprehensive of what will be his stand concerning the market.

“It was becoming a menace and den of Sodom with people taking laws into their hands culminating in the killing of a policeman in that market.

“We support the closure of the market and call for its relocation out of Enugu metropolis.’’

The cleric called on the people to pay their taxes to improve Internally Generated Revenue to enable the government continue with its people- oriented projects. (NAN)
