From Layi Olanrewaju, Ilorin

A United States-based non-governmental organisation, Medshare International and Coca Cola system in Nigeria, have donated medical equipment worth over $500, 000 to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, Ilorin under the Safe Birth Initiative (SBI).

The equipment and supplies were formally unveiled and handed over at a special event held at the hospital in Ilorin.

The gesture is part of Coca-Cola’s efforts at strategically ameliorating maternal and neonatal mortality under its Safe Birth Initiative (SBI).

According to its Communications Manager, Ifeyinwa Ejindu, some other hospitals that have benefited from this intervention include, National Hospital, Abuja; Federal Medical Centre, Ebute-Metta; Federal Medical Centre, Owerri; Wesley Guild Hospital Ilesha, and Alimosho General Hospital.

Mrs. Ejindu noted that SBI is a health-centric strategy with which the Coca-Cola system seeks to reduce the high rate of deaths being recorded during childbirth in Nigeria, both for mothers and newborns.
