The Lagos Country Club has urged President Muhammadu Buhari led government on the need for clear cut economy policies that is well marshalled and well communicated as he settles down for a second term in office. The President of the Club, Tajudeen Akande, said that whatever economy policies government is planning must be put into public domain by carrying  thebusiness community along.

Akande who disclosed this at the Club’s 70th anniversary press briefing and unveiling of the anniversary logo in Lagos Tuesday, said that the team to implement economic policies must be well thought out. 

According to him, Nigeria cannot afford to wait for another six months for the list of the ministers, adding that  Nigerians must know the team that will drive the economy plans of the government.

“The government must be engaging with the business community. You have a lot of organisations now like NECA, Chambers of Commerce and others trying to have an engagement with government so as to drive home the point that whatever is their economic policy must be put into public domain on time. Information is as good and useful as to its timeliness.

“We are in March now and most of the businesses don’t have inkling on the status of the budget because they are waiting for the government . The only concern of the business community is certainty. The main problem we had at the first transition was just certainty lack of direction.” On the Club’s 70th anniversary, he said that, “we have undoubtedly made significant impact in the society at large and in our immediate environ; having provided excellent recreational facilities and a conducive atmosphere for relaxation,”

This, he said, has impacted positively in the life of the club’s members as evidenced in the large number of septuagenarian, octogenarian, and few nanogenerian still active and interacting with young, vibrant, upwardly mobile business executives.

Also speaking at the event, Director General, 70th Anniversary Planning Committee, Babatunde Okunuga, said that the Club promotes recreational and social interests of members; as well as inter-ethnic and inter-racial understanding among people. 

According to him, that is why in the past 70 years, leaders and business moguls and political leaders are among the eminent personalities who have graced the ground of the Club.
