A university lecturer and traditional rulers in Nsukka area have applauded Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State for issuing a certificate of recognition to Chief Samuel Asadu, as a traditional ruler.

Asadu would succeed Igwe Sunday Asogwa, who died last year, as the traditional ruler of Edemani community in Nsukka Local Government Area (LGA) of Enugu State.

They made the commendation in Nsukka on Saturday in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) while reacting to the certificate of recognition given to Asadu on Wednesday by the government.

They said Asadu had shown great love and kindness for his people which made the community to elect him as their traditional ruler, unopposed.

Prof. Rose Onah, a Lecturer in the Department of Public Administration and Local Government Studies, University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) who is from Edemani community commended Ugwuanyi for issuing the certificate.

Onah said Asadu was an active community developer , an illustrious son of the community who loved to help his people without asking for any reward.

“There is nothing that Edemani people will give Asadu that will be enough to pay him back for his good work and philanthropic gestures to the community.

“This is a man who built a cottage hospital for the community, equipped it and allowed people to be treated free of charge.

“Igwe Asadu has helped many people, every Dec. 24 he organises Christmas party for children, share exercise books and school bags to them, as well as give children who came first, second and third positions in school some amount of money as encouragement,” she said.

Onah the former Nsukka LG Chairman said that Asadu also celebrated Christmas for families in the community by sharing bags of rice, beans and gifts.

“Everybody in Edemani is happy and grateful to Ugwuanyi for giving the certificate of recognition to Asadu,” Onah said

Igwe Patrick Okoro, the Traditional Ruler of Nkpunano Community in Nsukka, said he was not surprise that Ugwuanyi issued the certificate of recognition to Asadu, pointing out that the governor knew those contributing to the development of their communities.

“Ugwuanyi as a good governor does not hesitate to reward people who used their wealth and positions to develop and assist their communities in Enugu State,” he said.

Okoro said Asadu had done many things to the community that endeared him to the people.

“It’s as result of his kindness that the community elected him as their traditional ruler last month without any single opposition.

“As a traditional ruler, I identify with people who love and help in developing their communities,” he said.

Also speaking, Igwe Harbert Ukuta, the Traditional Ruler of Iga Community in Uzowani LGA said that Asadu was an illustrious son of Edemani who had helped and showed kindness to the community in many ways.

“I commend Ugwuanyi for given Asadu a certificate of recognition as this will enable him to do more for his people.

“I also commend the people of Edemani for appreciating the good work of Asadu that made the community to unanimously elect him as their traditional ruler without any single opposition.

“The reign of Asadu will move the Edemani community to an enviable height,”Ukuta said.

The Enugu State Government, through the Commissioner for Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Charles Egumgbe, on Wednesday, presented the certificate of recognition to Asadu. (NAN)
