A young woman was killed, Thursday when a container fell on shanties located at Sifax Terminal in Apapa, Lagos.
The incident, Daily Sun learnt occurred about 6am during the downpour.
The victim identified as Ezinne was said to have been in the shanties when the container fell. Two other people sustained varying degrees of injuries.
The Spokesman of Sifax Group, Muyiwa Akande in telephone interview described the incident as unfortunate.
“When the incident occurred, we immediately alerted the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and their officials came. Investigations into the incident is ongoing. It happened during the early morning downpour”, he said.
Reacting to the incident, Akin Akindele, the General Manager, LASEMA advised haulage companies to put in place adequate safety measures during operational activities to forestall accidents.

He said: “that two other men sustained injuries when a container fell on adjoining illegal shanties during the relocation of containers within the premises at about 5.30 a.m. on Thursday”.

Akindele added that the agency’s assessment indicated that operational activities were carried out without flood lights and operational safety procedures.
He revealed that the injured persons had been treated by the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) while the corpse had been deposited at the Mainland Hospital mortuary.

The LASEMA boss added that further investigations into the immediate and remote causes of the accident had begun
