Ebonyi State Government has read the riot act to contractors and government officials that it would not condone fraud in contracts award.
The state government restated its commitment towards eradicating incessant irregularities in contracts by both government and individuals and sealed partnership with the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors     (NIQS).
Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Chief Sunday Inyima, who received members of NIQS, Ebonyi State chapter who paid him a courtesy call said the essence of the partnership was to checkmate fraud in contracts arising from either inflation of contract sum or criminal variation.
“I said this because, as much as we apply the virtues of this department in government work such as preparation of bills and projects, I still apply it in my private projects.
“Now, no builder will come and tell me to give him money without measuring the quantity of work done.
“We have to do joint measurement so that you prove to me why I have to make such amount.”
Earlier, the state Chairman of the body,
“Mr. Kalu Ezichi said involvement of quantity surveyors in project delivery helps to ensure value for money as projects would not only be seen to be completed but also within the estimated budget.
He said the present economic realities in the country calls for prudent management of available resources for effective project delivery.
He added: “We believe that quantity surveyors, with their training as construction cost accountants, will partner with other professionals to achieve the desired objective of this administration.”

The state Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Chief Sunday Inyima, while receiving members of NIQS, Ebonyi State chapter who paid him a courtesy call said the essence of the partnership was to checkmate the ongoing fraud in contracts arising from either inflation of contract sum or criminal variation.
Chief Inyima said the relevance of quantity surveyors cannot be over emphasised in both private and government projects as they help to ensure prudence and expressed readiness of the state government to work with them to checkmate fraud and excesses found among contractors.
