A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Thursday sentenced a scavenger, Ifeanyi Pius, to two months imprisonment for stealing iron rods.
Pius, 30, of Ereke Junction, Karmo, Abuja, was sentenced on a two-count charge of criminal trespass and an attempt to steal.
The judge, Abubakar Sadiq, sentenced Pius as he pleaded guilty to the charge.
Sadiq, however, gave the convict an option of N5,000 fine, and warned him to desist from committing crime.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Auhioboh Florence, had told the court that on June 28, one Aliyu Sam of Eco Estate Life Camp, Abuja, reported the case at Life Camp Police Station.
Florence said that the convict committed the offence on the same date at about 3: 40 a.m. at Eco Estate, Life Camp, Abuja.
She said that the convict criminally trespassed into the estate through the fence and intentionally stole pieces of iron rods.
The prosecutor said the convict was apprehended by one of the security guard on duty
He added that during police investigation the said iron rods were recovered from the convict, while the offence contravened Sections 348 and 95 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
