Justice A. Lewis -Allagoa of the Federal High Court, Lagos has restrained Nigeria Police Force and the Attorney General of the Federal (AGF), Abubakar Malami (SAN), from arraigning a 76-year-old, ex-president of indigenous Shipowners Association of Nigeria, Chief Isaac Jolapamo, over alleged illegal possession of firearms.

The order of the court was sequel to the proposed arraignment of Chief Jolapamo by the police before another court over the alleged offence.

Justice Yelim Bogoro of the Federal High Court, Lagos had already fixed December 2 for the arraignment of Chief Jolapamo on a three-count charge bordering on alleged unlawful possession of guns.

However, Justice A. Lewis -Allagoa ruling on a motion ex parte filed on November 1, against the Inspector General of Police, Olufunke Otti Jolapamo and Attorney General of the Federation, ordered the parties to the maintain status quo pending the determination of the suit against them.

Chief Jolapamo’s lawyer, Femi Falana SAN had approached the court to seek an order of interim injunction restraining IGP, AGF either by themselves, servants or privies from arranging his client, via charge No. FHC/L/404C/22 alleging illegal possession of firearms at the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos, pending the final determination of the origination motion, herein.

Falana also sought an order of the court permitting the service of the application and other processes on IGP through the Force Criminal Investigation Department, Alagbon, Ikoyi, Lågos, and the AGF at the Federal Ministry of Justice, Annex, Marina Street, Lagos.

The judge granted the prayers and fixed further hearing of the suit on November 17.
