The Special Assistant on Media to governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State, Revr’d Richard Peters has said condemning and criticising government’s genuine and modest effort in the name of opposition amounts to witchcraft.

Peters who this in a statement made available to Daily Sun on Tuesday following the criticisms by some members of the oppositions that the newly inaugurated 29-km dual-carriage Etinan-Ndon Eyo road in the state does not have the two bridges hanging on cables as reported, condemned the level of ‘destructive criticisms’ in the state and warned perpetrators to desist forthwith for the overall interest of the state.

He wondered why some persons would maliciously criticize projects that have brought about economic benefits and development to the people just to score cheap political goal.

“I think this has gone beyond mere criticism to wickedness, criticism helps to keep the government in check on what they have not done and not what has been successfully done and majority of the people are benefitting from.

“Udom Emmanuel’s administration commissioned a 29-km Road with 2 cable bridges and some people due to political affiliation, sponsored falsehood on the Internet against the governor saying that the bridges are not hanging on the cables.

“How does their falsehood answer the fact that the road that was impassable before now has free flow of vehicular and human movement? Looking through the memory lane, political sentiments seem to take away that sense of reasoning from some people as they condemn almost every effort of government.”Peters said.

He attributed the criticism to disappoinment by the peddlers that Gov Emmanuel did not fail as they expected, saying that despite the current economic meltdown, the governor is still executing life-touching projects.

”Since the inception of this administration, there are people who never believe in the achievements of His Excellency that the governor could achieve what he has achieved.

“None of them can fault the construction of roads here or the establishment of 25 functional industries; none of them can rightly say that His Excellency has not constructed a total of 114 internal roads in Akwa Ibom or provided employment and empowerment to our youths or say he has not done more than 4000 projects in our schools.

“Their bitterness is that, Governor Udom has not failed in delivering on his promises, despite the dwindling economy.” Peters added. ENDS
