Eight persons were feared dead, in Oduoha community, Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State, yesterday, when suspected cultists invaded the area.

Daily Sun learnt  that the assailants beheaded one of their targets and went away with the head, after which the armed men came back on reprisal.

It was also gathered revealed that the killer cultists,  who were alleged to be members of Icelanders,  stormed the community following recent killing of their members by a rival cult group.

A source in the community said the killers invaded homes of their rivals in the community, in the early hours of yesterday, and killed them. He added that one Chivite was allegedly among the victims.

The victims,  it was gathered,  were members of Degbam cult group, who have always engaged rival groups in supremacy battles.

Another community source, who gave his name as Chuma,  stated that some residents of the community have fled their homes,  while others who chose to remain are afraid to move about because of fear of uncertainty.

Chuma further alleged that the armed cultists still parade the community, fully armed.

He also disclosed  the hoodlums stormed the community at midnight and shot sporadically.

The state Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Nnamdi Omoni,   confirmed the incident to journalists.

Omoni said, “We are aware of the incident at Oduoha community. It is a cult related attack. A chief from the community called in the early hours of Thursday to inform the police.

“The Commissioner of Police in the State, Ahmed Zaki, made immediate deployment of our men in the area. We have evacuated the corpses to the mortuary. Some of our vehicles have been stationed there to ensure that no reprisal takes place there. No arrest has been made, but our men are combing all the bushes in the area to ensure that we get the culprits.”
