THREE persons were killed at the weekend, when suspected cultists invaded communities in Aminigboko in Abua/Odual Lo­cal Government Area of Rivers State.
It was gathered that the inva­sion of the communities by ram­paging gunmen had been a recur­ring issue in recent times, in that part of the State, as not less then 50 persons have lost their lives in such a manner of attacks.
Daily Sun gathered that the gun­men, who invaded Aminigboko shot sporadically, killing at least three persons many others injured while they razed houses, includ­ing that of the traditional ruler of Emughan, Chief, Prince Obagana.
“A source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, at­tributed the attack to battle of supremacy between Icelanders and Greenlanders cult groups.”
“There was heavy gunshots in the community that made people to run for their dear lives. In the end, three people were killed and many were in­jured.”
“They also went ahead to burn many houses in the com­munity, including that of the Paramount Ruler of Emughan Clan. It was a battle of suprem­acy between the two rival cult groups in the area, Icelanders and Greenlanders,” the source said.”
“The Caretaker Committee Chairman of Abua/Odual Lo­cal Government Area, Mr. Oye Igenewari has condemned the dastardly act of the invaders say­ing that it was an unfortunate scenario.”
Igenewari, said normalcy re­turned to the community, when security operatives moved in.
He called on the Nigeria Po­lice and other security agencies to beef up security in the area to forestall further attack.
“Police Public Relations Of­ficer in the State, Ahmad Mu­hammad, confirmed the attack but said he had no details of the number of casualities.”
He said normalcy has been re­stored in the place with the de­ployment of policemen.
