Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Solomon Dalung, has formally dissolved the Nigeria House Project Committee for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

Thanking the committee headed by Muhammed Abdullahi for their service to the country after completing its assignment in Rio during the Olympic Games, the Minister wished the members well in their future endeavours.

The release signed by the Minister’s SA Media, Nneka Ikem Anibeze, noted: “The committee was given the task to give Nigeria a face at the Olympic Games in Rio by showcasing the Nigerian culture, arts and entertainment to the world during the Games.”

Meanwhile, officials of the Ministry and the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) had arrived in Nassau, Bahamas to inspect facilities to be used by Team Nigeria at the 6th edition of the 2017 Youth Commonwealth Games.

The games slated for July 19-23, 2017 will feature 1000 athletes participating in nine sports events including aquatics, athletics, rugby sevens, beach volleyball, beach soccer, cycling, boxing, tennis and judo.

The inspection which starts today is one of the requirements of participating countries as well as a meeting with the host nation ahead of the Youth commonwealth games.

“The participating countries including Nigeria will discuss and inspect training facilities available to the teams as well as accommodation, rules and regulations for the youth games.The meeting and inspection will last three days,” the ministry reveals.
