Former Chief of Army Staff, General Theophilus Danjuma,has made the highest donation of N5Billlion towards the development of the Low Cost Housing Estate in the proposed Centenary City at Ibeju Lekki Area of Lagos State.

He made the donation yesterday, at the Gala and Award night held at Harbour Point, Victoria Island, Lagos, to celebrate the 100 years Anniversary of the Anglican Diocese of Lagos, the oldest Anglican Diocese in Nigeria. The  event coincided with Danjuma’s birthday anniversary.

The City was conceived by the Diocesan Bishop of Lagos, The Rt Rev Dr Humphrey Bamisebi Olumakaiye to give an enduring legacy back to the society as the Diocese marks 100years  this year.

Danjuma said the donation will be redeemed in five consecutive years.

While making the donation, Danjuma who is the grand patron of the centenary anniversary advised the church to handle the project gradually as Rome was not built in a day. “Do not rush the project. When completed, you should also ensure that it truly low-cost as the name implies.”

Also, Chief Tunde Afolabi donated N500 million towards the Youth Empowerment Centre at the city.

Governor of Lagos State, His Excellency , Babajide Sanwoolu, APC leader, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor of Taraba State, His Excellency, Dairus Ishaku, Chairman & CEO of Amni International Petroleum Company, Chief Tunde & Engr Mrs Oluseyi Afolabi, General Ike Nwachukwu and many other dignitaries also joined the Diocese of Lagos (Anglican Communion) family at the event.

In his remarks, Olumakaiye said, the city will accommodate Youth Empowerment and Development Center, St. Luke’s global hospital, Games Village, low‐cost housing estate, Convention ground, Women empowerment center, rehabilitation center, amusement park, Gethsemane garden and many more.

He also stated that the Gala and Award night was one of the events put together to celebrate the 100 years of the Diocese, which will be Concluded today with a thanksgiving Service at the Cathedral Church of Christ Marina, Lagos.

Olumakaiye announced that the Low- Cost Housing Estate will be named after Gen Theophilus Danjuma due to his immense contributions to the  growth of the Lagos Diocese of the church.

The Diocesan was supported at the event by his immediate predecessor and wife, the Most Revd Dr Ephraim Adebola and Mrs Oluranti Ademowo OON and other Bishops across the Nation.
