It was a moment of joy for 25 chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC), their family members, friends, well-wishers, and indeed, the members of the party in Ebonyi State as they were bestowed with awards of excellence recently.

The award ceremony, Daily Sun gathered, was part of activities commemorating the 5th anniversary of Ebonyi State’s Coordinate of APC Youth League.

The award recipients included Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu; former Governor of the state, Chief Martin Elechi; Nigerian Ambassador to Argentina, Peru, Chile, and Paraguay, Amb. Jonah Mkpuruka; State Chairman of the party, Pastor Eze Nwachukwu; Chairman of Governing Council of Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti in Ekiti State, Chief Austin Edeze, and the National Deputy Financial Secretary of APC, Sunday Jacob Chukwu.

The gathering offered the APC chieftains the opportunity to brainstorm and strategize on the political future of the party in the state and by extension, the South East and South-South regions.
At the end, the party mapped out key strategies which would enable it sweep out the opposition political parties, especially the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) from the South East and South-South regions in 2019.

The party said that given the ‘unprecedented’ achievements of President Muhammadu Buhari in less than four years of his administration, Nigerians have seen clearly that the party was determined to lighten the yoke imposed on them by the PDP in the 16 years of its rule.

It said that the ascendency of the South East region to presidency in 2023 after Buhari was possible provided that the Igbo would give the president much needed support in next year’s election.

National President of APC Youth League, Atir Faeren, said every modality has been put in place by the Chief John Odigie-Oyegun-led national leadership to ensure that the people of the region occupy the rightful place already reserved for them by his party.
