From Paul Osuyi, Asaba
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Tuesday cleared the Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly, Sheriff Oborevwori as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for next year’s election.
The candidature of Oborevwori was in doubt after the May 25 primary following court case instituted by Mr. David Edevbie who challenged the academic credentials Oborevwori presented.
While Edevbie won at the Federal High Court, Abuja, the Appeal Court upturned the judgement. The matter is now at the Supreme Court.
In the final list of candidates pasted at the Delta State headquarter of INEC in Asaba, Oborevwori’s name was conspicuously published as PDP candidate with his deputy, Mr. Monday Onyeme.
Other governorship candidates on the list sighted by our correspondent were the Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege of the All Progressive Congress (APC); and former Minister of State for Education, Kenneth Gbagi of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
Perennial governorship candidate of various opposition parties in previous elections, Great Ogboru also made the final list as candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA).
Others are Agbi Goodnews Goodman of New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP); Ogba Emmanuel Samuel of African Democratic Party (ADP); Ekure Efeoghene Shedrack of African Democratic Congress (ADC); Gwede Jerkins Giane of Action Alliance; America Emmanuel of National Rescue Movement; Onokiti Helen of Accord Party; Edijala Immanuel of People’s Redemption Party; Okoh Emmanuel of Zenith Labour Party; Eke Kenny Ekene of Allied People’s Movement; Umudjane Sylvester of Boot Party; Cosmas Anabel of Action People’s Party; and Sunny Ofehe of Young Progressive Party.
