The Delta State government and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) have concluded plans to set up a mini-number plate manufacturing plant in Delta State.
Speaking in Asaba yesterday when the Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Mr. Boboye Oyeyemi paid him a courtesy visit, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa disclosed that accommodation facilities have been provided for the effective take off of the mini-manufacturing plant.
He disclosed that manufacturing the number plates would ensure faster provision of genuine number plates for motorists, adding that the FRSC should also, work towards encouraging investors to manufacture genuine tyres in Nigeria.
According to him, it was sad that despite the huge market for tyres in Nigeria, there is no company that was manufacturing the product, observing that manufacturing the product in Nigeria would ensure that genuine tyres were made available to road users in Nigeria.
“It is an undisputable fact that most of the accidents witnessed on the roads were as a result of faulty or expired tyres, but, if tyres are manufactured in the country, people will be sure of their sources.
“The FRSC should look at ways to encourage private investors to manufacture tyres in the country because, already, there is a huge market for such,” he added.
Governor Okowa while assuring the FRSC of partnership to ensure safety on the road, stated that the establishment of Delta State Traffic Management Agency (DESTMA) was to assist the FRSC in ensuring sanity and safety on the road.
Earlier, Mr. Oyeyemi commended Okowa’s administration in its desire to ensure safety on the roads and for support to the Corps, assuring that the number plate manufacturing plant would be functional in the next couple.
