Leaders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State have protested the killings of two of party members during last Saturday’s Presidential/National Assembly elections.
Addressing journalists, chairman of the party in the locality Dr David Oghenekevwe condemned the killings, blaming it on the opposition.
Flanked by Paulinus Akpeki, Austin Ayemidejor, Joyce Overa and others, Oghenekevwe said they received the shocking news of the killings of messrs Michael Chibuike and Jeffrey Otevbadje who were shot dead while discharging their civic responsibility.
He said the killing was unacceptable to the people of the area, saying “we therefore condemn it in very strong terms the killings of the party members.”
The party hierarchy called on the authorities to take the necessary action to bring the culprits to justice.
Party leaders visited the home of one of the deceased Jeffrey Otevbadje where they condoled with his family.
“We will not abandon you; no doubt, this is a trying moment for all of us but, we must unravel those who killed our dutiful and loyal members.”
“We have just started a serious movement that will unearth the mystery behind the killings, even though we know the perpetrators, they will not go unpunished,” Oghenekevwe said.
