The Delta State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has called on its leaders, members and supporters across the state, to peacefully exercise their franchise in the presidential and National Assembly elections on Saturday, noting that the polls will be devoid of any form of molestation and harassment.

The party further urged the electorate to resist any form of intimidation and stand bold and firm to defend their votes to avoid manipulation or sabotage of the electoral process.

The Publicity Secretary of the PDP in the state, Dr. Ifeanyi, Michael Osuoza, who made the appeal in a press statement on Friday, implored residents of the state to mobilise fully for the re-scheduled polls.

“The Delta PDP has noted with considerable concern, the increasing spate of attacks, assaults, harassment, false allegations to law enforcement agencies, hate speeches, outright assassinations and attempts on our members, all targeted to achieve the dubious objective of stopping our leaders and loyalists from mobilising our teeming supporters from coming out on election day to vote for our presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and all our PDP candidates in the senatorial and House of Representatives elections.

“We hereby strongly and confidently call on all our members, loyalists and teeming supporters to disregard these unprovoked provocations and come out in their numbers to vote massively for the PDP, on Saturday, February 23, 2019.

Osuoza charged PDP loyalists to follow all the laid down instructions for voting that would be issued by the electoral officers at their polling units, and cast their votes in a peaceful and orderly manner.

“Resist any form of intimidation by any suspected hoodlums and impersonators who may be dressed as law enforcement agents; stand firm, bold and with resolute determination, to protect and defend your votes until the ballots are properly counted and authentic results declared.

“We urge all the political parties and actors to play by the rules and ensure that we have orderly, peaceful, transparent and credible elections.

“We want to emphasise once again that the PDP will not be cowed and no amount of weird, desperate and mindless scheme or plot, will break the valiant resolve of Nigerians to vote PDP candidates at all levels in these elections. Power belongs to the people and the PDP is the party of the people,” the party’s spokesman added.
