The Gombe State Government has commenced the payment of compensation valued at N485, 125, 441 to 844 persons whose buildings were affected by 12 road projects being embarked by the Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo administration.

Commissioner for Ministry for Lands and Survey, Alhaji Shehu Abubakar Durbi, who doubles as chairman of the compensation committee, disclosed this, on Wednesday.

Durbi said that the compensation would take four days, with the communities affected scheduled to be paid within those days.

He said the 12 roads to be constructed comprise nine from Jekadafari North and three from Dawaki Quarters all within the Gombe metropolis.

The commissioners listed the roads to include; Layin Adamu Soye, Layin Mele, Layin Asibitin Modibbo Tukur, Layin Jankai among others.

He added that three communities namely; Layin Adamu Soye, Layin Mele and Layin Asibitin Modibbo Tukur would receive their cheques, on Wednesday.

The state government, however, gave the affected persons one month to vacate the buildings for which compensations have been paid.

Durbi equally warned those being compensated to desist from returning to site after the road projects have been completed, stressing that the state government would deal decisively with offenders.

“We noticed that some people would return to site after the completion of the jobs. Government has other plans for the remaining portions of land such as laying of water pipes and electricity cables. Government will deal decisively with offenders,” he said.

He commended the state governor for embarking on projects that would impact positively on the lives of the people, especially at a time when even the payment of salaries have become an issue.
