Governor Henry Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State says literary icon, Dr. Gabriel Imomotimi Okara would continue to be celebrated because of his many years of ‎excellence in the world of arts.

The governor stated this in a message to congratulate the foremost writer and poet, as he clocks the enviable age of 96 on the April 24, 2017.

Dickson noted that, Okara’s prowess in telling the African story, through his poems and prose has been widely acclaimed, making him one of the few legendary folklore kings on the continent.

Expressing great joy for the long life God has granted him, the governor went further to praise the nonagenarian ‎for his numerous and famous works, which has been translated into several languages.

He added that, it is not out of place for Okara to be referred to as the elder statesman of Nigerian literature and equally thanked him for the wise counsel he has continued to offer his administration, especially in the area of education.

While wishing him a happy birthday, Dickson pointed out that, even at his age, Dr. Okara still finds  time to attend state events, an indication of his profound passion for his beloved Bayelsa State.
