Assemblies of God Church National Men’s Department, Ajegunle branch, Lagos, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to shun the agitation for the break-up of the country.
President of the group, Ambassador Nwameme Joel, speaking after its annual national men’s week that took place at the church on Cardoso Street, Ajegunle, said the body decided to use the programme to break its silence on some national issues.
He said the quit notice given to Igbo people living in the North by the Northern youths and the quit order given to northerners and the Yoruba by the Niger-Delta militants should be seen as a warning from the Almighty God against the refusal of our nation’s leaders to adhere strictly to God’s principles of ruling with the fear of God:
“We as men of this church are requesting IPOB and other agitators to rescind their decisions and allow peace to reign and that no group should attempt to disrupt Anambra State gubernatorial election that is on the way.”
He called on the Federal Government to arrest and dethrone any traditional ruler who allows crime in his community: “Subsequently, we advocate for a National Forum of Traditional Rulers in which the Vice President should head, so that Federal Government would be able to monitor the country through these rulers.”
The body also called on government to constitute a body that would comprise all the general overseers of all the churches in Nigeria, so that these men of God would be able to work hand in hand with government to tackle problems spiritually. The body again wanted government to set aside a day in which Nigerians would embark on prayer and fasting for the 2019 general elections:
“We are in support of Buhari’s anti-corruption crusade. However, we are asking government to reduce import duties for importers and also ensure the availability of forex to them.”
