Diya hits Obasanjo, says ‘Aside nepotism, Obasanjo’s letter baseless’

Aidoghie Paulinus, Abuja

A former Chief of General Staff, Gen. Oladipo Diya, has said that apart from the issue of nepotism raised by former President Olusegun Obasanjo in his letter to President Muhammadu Buhari, there is no point in the 18-page letter.

Diya, a kinsman of the former president, however, said the issue of nepotism should be looked into by President Buhari.

Recall that Obasanjo had, on Tuesday, released an 18-page letter to President Buhari where he outlined the ineffectiveness of his government, chief amongst was the issue of nepotism.

But the Federal Government, through the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed said, on Wednesday, that it took the admonition of Obasanjo in good faith.

Efforts to get the reaction of Obasanjo regarding the response of the Presidency did not yield any result as the former president did not respond to calls and text message to his mobile line.

But Gen. Diya noted that by choosing the open way to address national issues, Obasanjo was merely following his traditional way of addressing issues.

Diya said, “You know Obasanjo has his own style of doing things. I just see that tied to him.”

On whether Obasanjo was right in the content of the letter, the former second-in-command to late General Sanni Abacha further said,  “I don’t see any point there. The only issue there is the accusation of nepotism. That should be looked into,” Diya concluded.
