The name DJ Meks Richard has been in circulation for some time, but it is presently being mentioned with high frequency in connection with achievements which in recent months include winning the Mykmary Fashion Show Special Recognition Award on August 28, the launch of Meks Record label in September and now, nomination for Outstanding DJ of the Year (Diaspora) at the Nigeria Achievers Award coming up on November 27, 2021.

DJ Meks Richards, reportedly “UK most booked African DJ in Diaspora,” an indigene of Abia State, was born and bred in Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos. The multi-talented entertainer, born in 1983, became interested in the art of disc jockeying while he was studying at the PEFTI Film Academy.

While answering questions during a recent interview, the DJ whose real name is Richard Anokwuru Emeka Amadi, gave a brief account of how he came into the disc jockeying trade: “It was while I was studying at Pefti Film Institute that I caught the DJ bug and then spent some time learning at Power Vibration Studios. After I had mastered how to mix, it was easy for me to become active on the DJ scene doing gigs at Lagos parties.”

He continued: “The passion to become a DJ was so overwhelming I decided to get some education in music technology, that was why I travelled to the United Kingdom. In time, I was playing at some of the biggest parties around London and I also got into radios and TVs too.”

As a DJ, he has attended various international events such as the Palm Wine Festival, Nottinghill Carnival, Nigerian DJs Industry Nights, Love Box Carnival, Afrobeat Music Award, Germany, and African Music Festival Europe Edition, to mention but a few.

“Many people think about me only in terms of a DJ, but I have also a collection of songs which are available across many digital portals such as Soundcloud,” he affirmed.
DJ Meks Richard also work as artiste manager for renowned celebrities including Nollywood actress Monica Friday and UK-based Nigerian Vlogger, Shade Iyalaje also known as Ebony Lips.
He is reported to be preparing to go into philanthropy with the impending launch of his Meks Touching Lives Foundation, which according to him aims to assist the education of underprivileged orphans across Nigeria.

Of his new record label, he said: “Meks Record Label is set up to provide a platform for the untapped talents that abound in Africa and Europe, hence our adoption of the slogan “Sound is Energy.”
