Speaker of House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, yesterday tasked the executive to take the lead in cutting cost of governance and save the nation huge amounts of money wasted annually.
He also urged the Presidency to critically re-assess the public outcry over the size of the presidential entourage within and outside the country with a view to reviewing the cost/benefit of including each member of the entourage in line with the Change Mantra of the administration.
The Speaker spoke at the National Stakeholders’ Consultative Forum organised by the Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC) in conjunction with University of Abuja, themed: “Building a strategic framework for the reduction in the cost of governance at all levels”.
He, however, applauded the move by government to sell off two aircraft in the Presidential Air fleet and the transfer of two helicopters in the fleet to the Nigerian Air Force, describing it as cheering news indicative that President Muhammadu Buhari was leading by example.
Represented by Mr. Dennis Nnamdi, member representing Udenu/Igboeze North Constituency of Enugu State, the Speaker also condemned excessive paraphernalia of office in the three arms of government.
