Ex-Rangers players based in United State of America (USA) have made a passionate appeal to both the federal government and the Enugu state government to act fast and save Christian Madu, who is battling with a life threatening ailment.

The former players of the Enugu flying Antelope noted that Madu a member of the Rangers squad that conquered Africa in 1977 brought honor to the country in his heyday as a player.

Chairman of the ex- internationals, Donald Stone Igwebuike in a chat with Daily Sunsports in Houston said the government has a responsibility to ensure that the nation’s heroes do not keeping dying just because they don’t have the financial wherewithal to pick up their medical bills.

“Christian Madu is down right now in Enugu. I m sure all that is needed to save him is good medical attention. Our appeal to both the federal and Enugu state governments is for them to do something about his situation. This is a man that did his country proud as a player. He should not be left in the lush now,” Igwebuike said.

Patron of ex-Rangers, Benson Ejindu pointed out that the youths of today would not be motivated to serve the country if those that did so in the past are not well catered for.

“The US government pay attention to their stars even when they are no longer active. But back home, the story is different. This is not a good commentary for our sports. Christian Madu is down right now. Ex Rangers in USA have been helping out, just as we did before Ken Ilodigwe passed on.

We don’t want Madu to go the way of Ilodigwe and many others who are no more. Government must act now to save Madu,” he said.
