From Noah Ebije, Kaduna
WORRIED by the prevailing cases of abduction of Christian girls and their forceful engagement in early marriage, Christians in the 19 northern states and Abuja under the umbrella of Northern States Christian Association of Nigeria (Northern CAN) have warned Emirs against engaging Christian minors in marriage.
Reverend Yakubu Pam gave the warning shortly after his election as the new chairman of the association in Kaduna at the weekend.
The leadership of the association also faulted the Nigeria’s membership of the Coalition of Islamic Countries against terrorism.
They said they needed assurance from government that innocent Christians would not be victims in the event that ISIS terrorists attack Nigeria for being a member.
“Does Nigeria have the capacity to fight back like other members,” they asked. Pam charged security operatives to live up to expectation by protecting lives and property of Christians in the north.
He also expressed concern over the killings in some parts of Nasarawa, Benue and other Christian areas in the region.
He, therefore, called on states and federal government to be more proactive in tackling these crises.
