Don’t follow Nnamdi Kanu sheepishly, IPOB members urged

A group, the Stakeholders for Willie Obiano 2nd Tenure has warned voters in Anambra State to resist any attempt by individuals or groups to cause the imposition of a sole administrator on the state.

The group alleged that certain individuals have perfected plans to disrupt the November 18 election by introducing crisis during the process.

National coordinator of the group, Chief Ekene Enefe, gave the warning, on Monday, on the heels of  the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s persistent threat that the scheduled November 18 governorship election in Anambra State would not hold.

Chief Enefe said that in as much as the Igbo were admittedly marginalised which well-meaning Ndigbo including the Ohaneze were fighting to redressed, followers of Nnamdi Kanu should not just obey any order given to them by the IPOB leader without giving it a second thought and ask themselves whether the action would not be against the interest of the Igbo. He said they should not follow Kanu sheepishly even when he went astray.

“We should not shoot ourselves in the leg in the name of fighting for our freedom. Anybody who says that there will be no election in Anambra is definitely anti Igbo and that is working against our common interest. Anambra is still part and parcel of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and so we are still bound by the laws of the nation. Don’t forget that if a crisis erupts in Anambra resulting in non conduct of the election, the Federal Government has the constitutional right to impose a sole administrator on the State who might be a non Igbo. By then who is the loser? We must be told if that is the plan of the architects of “no election in Anambra State,” Chief Enefe said.

On the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) leadership crisis in which Dr Victor Ike  Oye and Chief Martin Agbaso are major actors as to who is the authentic national chairman of the party, Chief Enefe said that the Nnewi High Court had settled that since Chief Agbaso and other defendants in the suit, their agents, privies or otherwise had been restrained from taking any steps towards organising, conducting or holding any congress or primary election in the name of the APGA in the State.

“According to the judgement, the defendants cannot hold such congress, conference or primary election in the name of the APGA and for the purpose of selecting or nominating any gubernatorial candidate for the APGA for the forthcoming 2017 Anambra State governorship election pending the hearing and determination of the substantive motion on notice,” he clarified.

He said that with that court pronouncement, supporters of Governor Obiano’s second term bid have nothing to worry about and should go ahead with greater energy to work for the Governor’s success at the polls come November 18.

Enefe noted that the APGA opposition who “deliberately and mischievously” introduced the crisis to the APGA to work against the chances of Governor Obiano being returned for a second tenure had failed “and will continue to fail no matter their strategies.”
