A jewellery dealer in Lagos, Jafar Suleiman, has narrated his ordeal in the hands of fraudsters who attempted to kill him while stealing from him.

Our correspondent gathered that the diamond jewellery dealer was contacted through their company’s customer service contact details on Instagram by two suspected hoodlums who introduced themselves as Victory Aminu and Arowolo Morufu Olalekan.

“I was instructed to bring certain jewellery worth about N10,000,000 to Paradox Bar and Lounge at 8B CMD Road, Magodo Phase 2, Lagos State on the guise that they intend to purchase the said items.

“Upon my arrival at about 4:00pm at the said location, the hoodlums made away with the goods after stabbing me severally with the intent to kill me.”

However, on their way out of the hotel with the goods, they were intercepted by the staff of the hotel who called the police and arranged and immediate treatment for the victim who narrowly survived his attempted murder.

Upon their arraignment at the Lagos State Magistrate Court, Ogba Division on February 28, 2022, the hoodlums pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.

The court, however, sent the file to the Department of Public Prosecution of the Ministry of Justice, for advice, as the case was adjourned till May 3, 2022, for mention.

A member of the family of the victim, on the condition of anonymity, confirmed that “the family is still following up on the DPP and we are hopeful that justice will be served. As a family, we also wish to inform the public that this practice has become a norm for hoodlums and it was necessary to inform the public to be wary of such practice. We have lost three family members to the same method of armed robbery because of the kind of business we do.”
