A Non Governmental Organization, Community Peace Action Network, has called on the people of southern Kaduna to be proactive and identify potential conflict situations in their communities.

Mr Samson Auta, Coordinator of the organisation said in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kaduna that early warning information would prevent conflicts and engender mutual cooperation.

Auta said that the NGO had undertaken advocacy visits to key stakeholders and communities in the area, to help raise awareness and encourage communities to form peace groups.

“We spoke with the Emir of Jama’a and the Chief of Gwadogwado community, so that we can calm the people there most especially the youths.

“Even though we have community peace observers, we still follow up on them to make sure that they consult with the youth so that the situation do not escalate to violence.

“The people should be proactive and send early warning information, especially where they need some help to stem any misunderstanding,” he said.

According to him, the response received in the area were good, but stressed that communities there still require more visible security presence.

“We are able to talk to Fulani leaders from our target communities, most especially in Gwadogwado.

“The last time we went we talked to some of them, we even encouraged them to go back to their farms especially in Gwadogwado axis, ” the coordinator said.

He said that the Peace Action Network was satisfied with current situation in the area, but expressed concern that relationship between the state government and the group was not robust.

Auta said that the government hardly consult the peace organisation on anything, adding “they do not give us the right support.”

The coordinator, therefore, urged the government to recognise the efforts of the organisation in promoting peace across Kaduna State.
