From Obinna Odogwu, Abakaliki

immediate past governor of Ebonyi State, Martin Elechi, has said some people wished and prayed him dead when he served as governor of the state.

He said like President Muhammadu Buhari, some people opposed to his “good style of leadership” wanted him dead by any possible means while his administration lasted for eight years, from 2007 to 2015.

Elechi disclosed this in Abakaliki, during a rally organised by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, to celebrate the quick recovery and return of President Muhammadu Buhari from a medical trip which lasted 104 days in the London, the United Kingdom.

The ex-governor recalled that in 2007, when he first contested for the governorship of Ebonyi state, a group organised a prayer session asking God to stop his ambition and when he won, they continued the prayer, asking God for his death.

“In 2007, a group of people organized a prayer session so that I will not win the election to become Governor but, after I won, they continued the prayer session, and asked God to make sure I died.

“But, a pastor told them that God does not answer such prayers.

“Today, Nigerians are praying. Some are praying for the good health of the president and some are praying for the opposite but, God does not hear such prayers.

“Buhari is our President. He will govern Nigeria for eight years and bring those changes about,” he noted.

Elechi said five months ago, they gathered to pray for recovery of the president and thanked God for answering their prayers and added that they were in support of the good things the president was doing, especially the fight against corruption. He declared that he (Buhari) remains their choice in the 2019 general elections.

“So, I want to assure the president that, come 2019, when Nigerians will give a befitting burial to the PDP, Ebonyi state will not be found wanting. We shall play our role and bring democracy back to Ebonyi state” he added.
