The Chairman of the Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC),  Col. David Imuse (rtd), yesterday, called on the state governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, to resign from office with immediate effect over his declaration last Friday that governance in the state would take back seat for now to enable him focus on campaigning for the PDP Presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

“As from today, governance will take back seat while campaign will take front seat until Atiku emerge victorious”, Obaseki had while speaking at the inauguration of the PDP Campaign Council last Friday in Benin.
Imuse, while calling for the governor’s resignation, also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to begin to prepare for a fresh gubernatorial election in the state.

The call is contained in statement by the Chairman of the party, Col David Imuse and signed by the Assistant State Publicity Secretary of the party, Osehobo Victor Ofure.

In the statement, Imuse who had in the past lamented the collapse of governance in Edo due to what he calls the rudderless government led by the governor, said his renewed call is in tandem with the fears of many people, that government in the state has finally come to a halt.

He noted that even before this public display of cluelessness, Edo people were aware that Governor Obaseki has run out of ideas since he was sworn in for a second term in office. This he said is because after he lost the original copy of his manifesto labelled, “Make Edo Grounded Again”, his co-travellers and business partners have not been unable to get him an alternative.

“The result has been for the Governor to stay away from Benin City, the state capital as often as possible, while pretending to be busy searching for investors, signing agreements or MOUs or campaigning in an election in which he is not a candidate.

“The irony of all these is that Mr Obaseki who was even described as a tenant in the party, and did not attend the embattled PDP Presidential primary with a single delegate is biting more than he can chew. He was a loner who entered the Guinness Book of world records as the first elected public official to attend his political party presidential primaries without a delegate.

“Even the PDP Presidential candidate, Atiku, is busy attending to his numerous investments in Dubai and France while other bona fide PDP governors like the chairman and director-general of the Campaign Council respectively, Mr Udom Emmanuel and Aminu Tambuwal are still doing their jobs”.

“This goes to confirm our conclusion that Edo State today is not a democracy but a dictatorship with Mr. Godwin Obaseki as the Executive, the legislature and the Judiciary, hence our call for the governor to resign with immediate effect”, the statement said.
