The governorship ambition of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate,  Godwin Obaseki, got a major boost at the weekend, as over 30  traditional rulers from the six local government areas that make up Edo North Senatorial District, endorsed his candidacy.
The endorsement came from  traditional rulers from Akoko-Edo, Owan East, Owan West, Etsako East, Etsako West and Etsako Central local government areas.
At the event which held in Auchi, the traditional rulers said they believed Obaseki would continue from where the out-going government of Adams Oshiomhole would stop and even surpass it.
They were led in the endorsement by the Otaru of Auchi, HRH Alhaji Haliru Momoh Ikelebe III, who also personally presented a cheque to support Obaseki’s campaign.
They said Oshiomhole has represented the state as governor and has made Edo people proud.
According to the Otaru of Auchi,  the meeting of Edo North monarchs was called to honour  “our son who has transformed Edo State in all aspects of human life and  from Edo South, North and Central, there had been transformation of surpassing dimension.  The federal allocation to Edo State has been dwindling compared with other big and oil producing states but the level and the speed which the state has been transformed and delivered defined the level of man sent by God to give heritage to performance that everybody admire and commend. This is more than anything building educational institution, roads, erosion and various other things”.
He commended Governor Oshiomhole for establishing a university in the region and encouraging religious tolerance through support for both Islam and Christian activities in the state.
“One of those issues that has brought Edo State to lime light is the inter religious play that we have because in Edo State, inter religious committees are working day and night to ensure peace and those are the qualities we have in Edo State that have brought us light. These are some of the qualities that had opened the light in Edo state for us to see but there are people who have eyes but they cannot see, they are no use to humanity because they are blind even though they have eye.s
“I want to say that Edo North traditional rulers have committed themselves to this campaign by saying that whatever money you give to traditional rulers in a gathering of this nature, we donate it to support the campaign”.
In his speech, Obaseki promised to continue to work for the people, saying that the Edo University Iyamho would become a model for other universities in Nigeria.
Governor Oshiomhole had earlier said that some teachers trained in Islamic background would soon be employed to re-introduce teaching of Islamic Studies in public schools in the state.
