Edo Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has condemned recent cult-related killings in Benin City and charged the State Police Command to arrest the trend and prosecute the culprits.

The governor said this in response to the reported killings of yet-to-be confirmed number of persons in parts of Benin metropolis. He called on the people to remain calm as relevant security agencies are working round the clock to fish out the culprits.

“The revamped security architecture in the state is working round the clock to ensure that those responsible for the killings are brought to book.

“We are constantly engaging with the top brass of security agencies in the state and they have assured of their commitment to fish out the culprits.”

The governor charged the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Hakeem Odumosun, and other relevant security agencies, to leave no stone unturned in fishing out those responsible for the clashes and resultant deaths.

He added that operatives of the Operation Wabaizighan, a security architecture set up to fight violent crimes in the state, have been dispatched and they are in pursuit of the criminal elements fomenting trouble. 

The governor added: “We are a state that upholds law and order. I dare reiterate that no one is above the law in this state.

“This is why the police have gone after the hoodlums and will ensure that they are brought to book.” 

Meanwhile, the state government has announced that schools across the state would resume today, for continuation of the second term academic session, after the mid-term break.

In a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Dr. Mrs. R. E. Obahiagbon, the state government urged students to return to school as the the 2018/2019 academic session ended yesterday.
