The Gombe State zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) said it has secured 7 convictions, arrested 191 suspects as well as recovered over N110m with the months of January to July this year.

Head of Operations of the office, Aminu Ado Aliyu, while reviewing activities of the agency, on Tuesday, disclosed that the agency also succeeded in arresting members of a syndicate in Gombe specialising in adulterating fertlisers, palm oil and petroleum products.

The zonal office oversees Gombe, Bauchi,Taraba and Adamawa states.

Giving a breakdown of the monies recovered, Aliyu said the agency in the course of its investigations retrieved the sum of N79, 074,743.53 in draft and cash of N31, 745,280, totalling N110,820,023.53.

” Let me also state that we do not only concern ourselves with ridding the society of economic and financial crimes by sending criminals to jail, we also forestall crime by alerting and sensitising the public on the modus operandi of these fraudsters,” he said.

He added that the agency equally embarks on public enlightenment as a result of which good samaritans volunteered information leading to the cracking of members of the syndicates.

Aliyu appealed to the general public to come forward and report any suspected financial crime being perptrated with a view to getting rid of corruption in the country.
