The Lagos State Government has said its 30-year development plan 2022-2052, billed for formal unveiling on October 11-12 at the Economic Summit codenamed Ehingbeti, would seek to transform the state into an African model mega city and financial/ tech hub by fighting poverty and unemployment through technical education.

Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mr Samuel Egube, who stated this at a pre -summit stakeholder engagement at the weekend described the LSDP as an all-encompassing master plan that articulates initiatives that will drive Lagos’ ambition to become Africa’s Model Mega City, a Global, Economic and Financial Hub that is Safe, Secure, Functional and productive.

Egube, who is also the co-chairman of the summit said the 2022 summit would target strengthening the Lagos’ vision of becoming Africa’s iconic model city, hence the kick-off of the communication process on the LSDP’s strategic dimensions and objectives including details on the initiatives supporting the objectives.

He listed the stellar performances of previous Ehingbeti engagements in the state to include Agric Youth Empowerment Scheme/Agric Youth Initiative, Lagos HOMs – Ownership Scheme, and Improvement of Water Transportation. Other past achievements according to him, included the Independent Power Projects (IPPs) in (Akute, Island I & II, and Alausa) currently operational and two more (Peninsula and Mainland), Ikoyi link Bridge, Establishment of Rice Mill in Imota in Ikorodu area of the state, 47 percent increase in agric allocation between 2011 and 2013, and the Free zone – deep-sea ports in the Lekki and Badagry area among others.

Egube said the 2022 economic summit would help the state government galvanise and engage with high-powered speakers and thought leaders on the strategic dimensions and focus areas of the LSDP 2052 and provide opportunities for engagement with the audiences to formally launch the Lagos State Development Plan 2022- 2052

Other expectations according to the commissioner include a clear common roadmap for implementation of the LSDP 2022- 2052 including the buy-in of key private sector stakeholders in supporting it and its objectives, official launch of the LSDP 2052 by unveiling it to the public and engaging a wide range of audiences on the plan’s vision, its strategic dimensions and objectives.
